At the center of the enchanting rolling fields, lived a shepherd boy. His existence was essentially untarnished, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was essentially to tend to his herd of ewes.

Their soft bleating and the whispering of the gales through the single tree on the mountaintop were his constant companions. Day after day, guarding his charges imbued in him a feeling of calm satisfaction.

But, there were at times moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. On one such day because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty plot.

Stories of wolves preying on sheep had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy decided to leveraged this fear and played a here prank on the villagers.

One afternoon he raced into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The frightened villagers sprinted up the hills to offer assistance but discovered no wolf.

The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This prank persisted for a few days more. However, one noon, a real wolf did charge at the herd. The shepherd boy dashed for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was in the past.
